Checks on your content

You never have to remember to run a check. TrueTone checks a draft as it writes it, checks your words each time you save an edit, and on social captions watches as you type.

What gets checked

Checks cover social posts, blogs, emails, video scripts and captions, audiogram scripts and captions, and replies to reviews. Flyers and other marketing graphics are checked on their words before you download them, and website pages are checked when you save them.

When a check runs

While the draft is written

When you generate a piece, the status reads “Checking against federal ad rules” while TrueTone checks the draft. If a line TrueTone wrote breaks a rule, it fixes it before you see the draft, and tells you how many lines it fixed. For a video or an audiogram, the script is checked first and the caption after.

As you type a social caption

On a social post’s caption, a quick Basic check runs a moment after you stop typing. It only shows you what it sees: it records nothing, it does not count toward any limit, and it offers no Fix it. Very long drafts are not checked as you type.

Each time you save

Every save checks the saved words, never each keystroke. This covers the social caption, the blog article, video and audiogram captions, the video script, and the email builder. The save’s result replaces anything you saw while typing.

Before a flyer or graphic is downloaded

A flyer or graphic is checked on its words. Findings show on the words themselves, with a panel that offers “Fix all suggested” and a “Re-check required” note when the words changed since the last check.

What ran, and when

Click the Check Label above a piece to open the details. It says which check ran (“Judged Read and the TrueTone Basic Check”, or “TrueTone Basic Check only”) and when it ran: When it was written, After a rewrite, After your answer, After your edit, or At release. Each finding is listed with its level: a blocking line, a warning, or a note.

Beside the label you may also see which states the piece was checked against. If you have not set your Licensed States, it says “Checked against federal rules only” for those states. See State ad rules.

Good to know

A check speaks to the exact words it read. If you change the piece afterwards, the next save checks the new words, and the label updates to match.

  • When a check cannot run, the piece says so (“The check could not run”) rather than showing a pass. If the full check is unavailable for a moment, the Basic check runs in its place.
  • Spotted something a check missed? Use “Report a miss” on the piece. It goes to the people who maintain the rules, and you see “Sent to the compliance rule reviewers”.
